With Valentines Day quickly approaching, I wanted to share a couple of Valentine’s Day doll crafts with my readers.  Over the weekend, I was doing some crocheting for my daughters’ dolls and came up with this Valentine Headband Earwarmer crochet pattern. It is quick and easy to complete. I made about 4 of them in a couple of hours, trying to get the pattern just right.

DIY Doll Crafts Supplies Needed

Heart Headband American Girl Doll Crochet Pattern Supply List

  • Size G Crochet hook
  • Worsted weight yarn in white and red (or colors of your choice)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations used in this Free Crochet Pattern

  • dc – double crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • sc – single crochet
  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sts – stitches

Diy Doll Crafts Tutorial

Gauge for this free crochet pattern

Everyone crochets differently, some produce tighter stitches than others.  Be sure to check your gauge before starting this project.

Gauge: 4 rows of 4 single crochet stitches = 1-1/4″ x 1-1/4″

Adjust the size of your hook to fit the gauge.

Valentine Headband Earwarmer American Girl Doll Crochet Pattern

Work in the round. Do not join unless otherwise noted.

Rnd 1: With white yarn, Ch 44. Join to make a circle, taking care not to twist the chain. sl st in 1st 5 chs, sc in next 34 chs, sl st in next 5 chs. Join.

Check for fit: Try it on the doll’s head at this point to make sure it fits. If need be, you can remove some of the starting chains or add more.  When adjusting the pattern up or down, be sure to add or subtract from the middle 34 stitches in each round.  You want to keep the 5 beginning and endings stitches that create the thinner band that goes under the hair.

Rnds 2 and 3: Sl st in next 5 sts, hdc in next 34 sts, sl st in next 5 sts.

Rnd 4:  sl st in 1st 5 sts, sc in next 34 sts, sl st in next 5 sts. Join.

Heart Embellishment Crochet Pattern:

With red yarn, Ch 2.

In 2nd ch from hook, 5 hdc, 4 dc, ch 1, sl st, ch 1, 4 dc, 4 hdc.  Join with sl st to first hdc of round and finish off.  Pull yarn tight to close up the hole in the center.

Sew the heart embellishment to the side of the headband earwarmer, referring to the picture below for placement.
