For each headband for American Girl dolls that you want to make, cut a piece of fabric that measures 3″ x 10″.

I like to use a disappearing fabric ink pen to mark the fabric to make sure it is uniform in size.

Turn in 1/2 inch on the short edges and press.  Optionally, baste to hold in place.  This will make it so you don’t have to hem any raw edges on these 18 inch doll headbands.

I like using a mini iron and travel ironing board whenever I am working on small projects like these American Girl doll headbands.  No sense in dragging out my regular iron and big ironing board for something so little.

You can get special mini irons for crafting or a travel iron works as well.  I also keep a travel ironing board in my craft room for projects like this one. Travel-sized ironing boards are small enough to sit on your tabletop and don’t take much space to store.

Cut a 4″ piece of 1/2″ elastic.  (All I had on hand was 1/4″ elastic and that works too!) Insert elastic into one end of the tube about 3/4″.  (A disappearing ink pen is great to use here too to mark how far you should insert the elastic.) Sewing close to the edge, stitch closed.
